Townsend Leadership Program 2020

SomEx Modules I, II, & III completed with the Experiential Healing Center

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Mental Health Service Provider designation, and I have 10 years of experience practicing as a psychotherapist. I am also a life coach with training through Townsend Leadership Program. Since COVID, I have experience working with therapy and coaching clients via Telehealth. I currently work with therapy and coaching clients who live locally in Memphis and throughout the state of Tennessee. I also work with coaching clients who live out of state. I started my own private practice, Sarah Lawrence Davis, LLC, June 2022.

Through my own recovery and therapeutic journey, I have learned the value of telling the truth about my internal experience, and how it is essential in moving out of hiding, pretending, and performing and into full living. I have experienced peace, presence, hope, and joy in ways I never could have imagined before asking for help.

I have also experienced the healing power of relationships as the primary means of healing and change. One of my favorite therapeutic terms is ‘mis-matching experience’, where the painful experience connected to the past that a person expects to have is different from the reality of the present experience. I have been met with acceptance and grace by therapeutic professionals and recovery communities instead of the judgment and criticism I expected. My Higher Power has used mis-matching experiences with others to bring deep healing in my life, and I view the whole therapeutic process and therapist-client relationship as a potential mis-matching experience.

I have worked in inpatient and outpatient settings with adolescents and their families, and I currently work with adolescents, adults, and couples in a private practice setting. I treat depression, anxiety, relationship issues, codependency, addiction, and family of origin trauma.

In 2020, after completing the Townsend Leadership Program, I started working with coaching clients in addition to working with therapy clients. I use John Townsend’s Growth Model to guide coaching clients in their growth process as they work towards personal and professional goals. I also led Kardia Collective's first Coaching Training Program cohort in 2021-22.

Outside of helping my clients, I enjoy spending time with my husband, twin boys, and two stepdaughters, friends, and family; searching for new coffee shops and gluten-free food with my husband; working out at Iron Tribe Fitness; traveling; and learning how to play piano.
